Design

Software you don’t have to explain.

A good tool disappears in your hand. Nobody reads a manual for a pencil. masoc is built the same way: you reach for something, and it is where you expected it to be.

The photo is the hero.

The interface is black and white, so every color on the screen comes from your photo. Panels float at the edge in glass, and one tap sends even them away, until there is nothing left but the picture.

Every control does what you expect.

Sliders sit on real rulers, tinted to show what they change: warmer to the right, cooler to the left. They catch at zero and move as finely as your finger does. No hidden gestures, no long presses you would never find.

Try it. This is the slider from the app.

One row. Every tool.

Light, Color, Effects, Looks and Tools live in one capsule under your thumb. You always know where you are, and you are always one swipe from anywhere.

Motion that means something.

Everything in masoc moves on springs, the way things move in the world. A panel shows where it came from and where it went, and haptics confirm what your eyes already saw.

Learn it once.

masoc is one app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The panel lies under the photo on a phone and stands at the side where there is room, with the same tools in the same places, and a menu bar and keyboard shortcuts on Mac and iPad.

Made by a photographer.

masoc is made by Joshua Hoffmann, a photographer and developer. Before masoc he built iiwii, a film simulation camera for iPhone. masoc is the editor he wanted for his own photos, shaped by every round of beta feedback.

Questions

Is masoc hard to learn?
It shouldn’t be. Every tool sits in one row, every slider shows what it changes, and nothing hides behind a gesture you would never find. Help & Tips are there when you want them.
Does masoc work the same on iPhone, iPad and Mac?
Yes. It’s one app with the same tools in the same places. The panel lies under the photo on a phone and stands at the side where there’s room, with a menu bar and keyboard shortcuts on Mac and iPad.
