How can we help?

Answers to the questions that come up most, and a direct line to the developer when they don’t cover yours.

Write to Josh

Josh reads every message, and each one helps make masoc better. There isn’t always time to answer them all, but none goes unread.

In the app, Settings › Feedback & Diagnostics fills in your app and device details and can attach problem reports. They hold no photos, no file names and no places.

Questions and answers

Getting started

Which devices does masoc run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and later, and Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. It’s one app with the same tools everywhere.

How do I bring photos into masoc?

Tap the import button in the library. It offers your Photos library, files on the device or in iCloud Drive, and whatever image is on the clipboard. You can also drop files onto the library window, or send them to masoc from another app’s share sheet. RAW files and videos are welcome.

Does editing in masoc change the photos in my Photos library?

No. masoc keeps its own copy of everything you import, so editing never touches your originals. Your edited version goes back to Photos only when you export it.

Can I apply a look while importing?

Yes. Pick a look from the Look entry in the import menu first, then the source. Every photo of that batch lands with the look applied.

Where can I learn the gestures and tools?

Open Settings › Help & Tips in the app. It explains the library, the editor, masks, looks and export, and on Mac and iPad also the keyboard shortcuts.

Editing

How do I compare my edit with the original?

Press and hold anywhere on the photo to see the untouched original. Let go and your edit returns. On Mac, hold the space bar.

How do I reset a single slider?

Double-tap the slider, or tap the small reset arrow beside its name. Press and hold the number to type an exact value.

How do I set a precise value with a slider?

While dragging, move your finger up or down away from the track. The steps get finer the further out you go, a little like a Digital Crown.

How do masks work?

A mask limits an edit to part of the photo. masoc finds the subject or the sky for you, or you draw one with a brush, a linear or a radial gradient. Add regions to extend a mask or subtract them to cut a hole.

Can I undo everything?

Yes. Undo and redo cover every change in the editing session, masks and tools included.

Looks and presets

Can I use my Lightroom presets?

Yes. Import .xmp presets from the Looks manager, drop them onto the library, or send them to masoc from another app. Settings without a counterpart in masoc are skipped rather than approximated.

Can I import my own LUTs?

Yes. masoc reads .cube LUT files. They sit beside the built-in looks and work on photos and videos alike.

How do I save my own preset?

Save the current edit as a preset from the editor. You choose which parts it carries, so a preset can hold only the color work and leave exposure alone.

Can I take my presets elsewhere?

Yes. Presets export as .masoc files for other masoc users, or as .xmp to open them in Lightroom. Imported profiles export again as .cube.

Smart Edit

What is Smart Edit?

Describe a change in your own words, like “warmer and a little brighter”, and Smart Edit turns it into real slider settings you can still adjust yourself. You can type or speak.

Why don’t I see Smart Edit?

Smart Edit needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Right after turning it on, the model may still be downloading. Once it’s ready, Smart Edit appears under Tools in the editor.

Dictation doesn’t work. What can I do?

Dictation needs access to the microphone and to speech recognition. Allow both for masoc in Settings › Apps › masoc on iPhone and iPad, or in System Settings › Privacy & Security on Mac. Typing always works.

Is what I say sent anywhere?

No. Speech is transcribed on the device and Apple Intelligence works on the device. Your words and recordings are not stored.

iCloud sync

How do I sync my library between devices?

Turn on iCloud Sync in Settings › iCloud on each device signed in to the same Apple Account. Choose whether presets and profiles, photos and videos sync.

Does sync use my iCloud storage?

Yes. Synced photos and videos count against your iCloud storage, videos can take a lot of it. Built-in profiles are part of the app and are never uploaded.

Can I save space on this device?

Choose Download When Needed in Settings › iCloud. Previews stay on the device, and an original comes down when you open, export or merge it.

A photo won’t open while I’m offline.

With Download When Needed, some originals live only in iCloud. Connect to the internet and open the photo again, or choose Keep All to keep every original on the device.

How do I remove my data from iCloud?

In Settings › iCloud, delete a category from iCloud. This turns syncing off for it on all your devices, and everything on each device stays there.

Exporting

Which formats can I export?

HEIC, JPEG or PNG, or the original format. For HEIC and JPEG you set the quality yourself.

Where can exported photos go?

To your Photos library, to Files, or straight into a share sheet. Filenames keep the original or follow a name you choose.

Can I remove the location before sharing?

Yes. Location, camera details and the date can each be left out of the exported file.

Exporting to Photos fails.

masoc needs permission to add photos to your library. Allow it in Settings › Apps › masoc › Photos on iPhone and iPad, or in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos on Mac.

Can I keep editing while an export runs?

Yes. Exports run in the background. A small pill shows the progress and the time left, and you can cancel from there.

Unlock and purchases

Is masoc free?

masoc is free to download, and every tool works without paying. Your first three exports are free as well. After that, Unlock masoc lets you export as much as you like, monthly, yearly or once for good.

What counts as an export?

Every photo or video that leaves masoc, whether to Photos, to Files or through the share sheet. It counts only once it has arrived, so a cancelled export costs nothing. A photo exported as Original is your untouched camera file and never counts.

Does one purchase cover all my devices?

Yes. Purchases belong to your Apple Account and unlock masoc on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to it. All three plans work with Family Sharing.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings › Unlock masoc and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed in with the Apple Account you bought masoc with. If a purchase waits for approval through Ask to Buy, masoc unlocks as soon as it’s approved.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open Settings › Unlock masoc and tap Manage Subscription, or manage it in your Apple Account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews. masoc stays unlocked until the end of the period you paid for.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Every tool keeps working, and your photos and edits stay right where they are. Exporting then needs an unlock again, apart from any free exports you haven’t used yet.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are made through the App Store, so refunds are handled by Apple. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

When something goes wrong

masoc crashed or froze. What should I do?

masoc keeps a short report on the device. Open Settings › Feedback & Diagnostics, tap Report a Problem and leave Attach Problem Reports on. Reports hold no photos, no file names and no places.

A photo looks wrong or won’t render.

Write in with Report a Problem from Settings › Feedback & Diagnostics, and describe the photo: camera, file type and what you changed. The attached report shows which step failed.

How can I help the developer find crashes?

Turn on Share With App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements. iOS then sends crash reports to the developer without anything identifying you.
