Switch from Photomator
A Photomator alternative for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
masoc is a photo editor with AI masks, film looks, RAW and Lightroom presets. Every AI feature runs on your device, and you never need an account.

Photomator today.
The facts, if you are weighing your options.
- Made by the Pixelmator Team, which became part of Apple in February 2025.
- Sold by Apple on the App Store, for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro.
- Free to download, then a monthly or yearly subscription, or a lifetime license.
- Not part of Apple Creator Studio, Apple’s subscription with Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and Pixelmator Pro.
- The latest version is 3.4.15, released in August 2026.
Checked in October 2026 on Photomator’s App Store page, Apple Support and Apple’s Creator Studio page. The date of the acquisition is from a Videomaker report of February 2025.
masoc takes its own approach. Here is what it offers.
One app, on every screen.
iPhone, iPad and Mac, with the same tools in the same places.
On iPhone the panel sits under the photo. On iPad and Mac it stands at the side, with a menu bar and keyboard shortcuts. There’s no account to create. iCloud sync stays off until you turn it on. Then photos, videos, edits and presets move through your own private iCloud.

masoc needs iOS 26, iPadOS 26 or macOS 26 or later, and a Mac with Apple silicon.
AI that stays on your device.
Masks, depth, retouch and Smart Edit run on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
masoc finds the subject, the sky and the background on its own. Add linear, radial and brush masks, and change light, color and effects inside each one. Brush over what doesn’t belong, and the fill is painted on the device too.

With Smart Edit, you type or say what you are after, like “warm sunset, softer shadows”. It turns your words into slider values, and every one stays yours to change. More about on-device AI.
Smart Edit requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence.
Film looks, built in.
22 looks, among them film simulations from Fujifilm, Kodak and Ilford.
Every look has an intensity from 0 to 120 percent and works on any photo, RAW included, and on video. Import your own .cube LUTs, and they sit right beside the built-in looks. More about film looks.

Lightroom presets, in and out.
Open .xmp presets from Lightroom or Camera Raw, and export your own.
Each .xmp preset you open becomes a masoc preset for any photo. Going the other way, any preset you build in masoc exports as an .xmp file, with light, color, tone curve, HSL, color grading, detail, crop, LUT, and linear and radial masks. More about Lightroom presets in masoc.
RAW, Log video and more.
For the shots that need a little more.
- RAW. From Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and other cameras, and Apple ProRAW. On RAW, white balance works in true Kelvin values.
- Log video. Twelve Log profiles, developed like RAW, with looks and grading on top.
- Panorama and HDR merge. Stitch a series into one wide shot, or merge a bracket into one HDR photo.
